The Asahiflex II series represents the pinnacle of Asahi Optical Co.'s early camera engineering, produced between 1954 and 1957. It is celebrated as the platform that popularized the instant-return mirror mechanism worldwide, permanently curing the "viewfinder blackout" problem that had plagued previous single-lens reflex designs.
