The Kodak Brownie is a legendary series of incredibly simple, low-cost box cameras that Eastman Kodak began manufacturing at the turn of the 20th century. Initially made of reinforced jute board (cardboard) and imitation leather, it featured a basic rotary shutter and a simple fixed-focus lens. Marketed under the slogan "You press the button, we do the rest," the Brownie took photography out of elite studios and put it in the hands of the general public, effectively inventing the concept of the casual "snapshot."
