The Asahi Pentax is a revolutionary 35mm SLR camera that introduced the fixed eye-level pentaprism viewfinder combined with an instant-return mirror, creating the exact design formula used by almost all film and digital SLRs for the next half-century. It discarded the old waist-level finders of the Asahiflex series, debuted a right-handed thumb-wind film lever, and introduced the legendary M42 screw mount, propelling Asahi Optical Co. into global stardom.
