The Asahi Pentax K is a historic 35mm SLR film camera introduced in May 1958 as the high-performance successor to the original Asahi Pentax (AP). Retaining the iconic M42 screw mount, it was the first Pentax camera to break the speed barrier with a 1/1000s focal-plane shutter and feature an internal mechanical linkage for semi-automatic aperture control. Hand-built and beautifully trimmed, the Model K bridge-linked early experimental SLRs to the mass-market classics that defined the 1960s.

Notes on how this behaves in practice — what it does in the field is worth as much as what the datasheet says.
